The weather was 40 degrees Fahrenheit yesterday, and the sun shone as though it was spring. For the first time in a long time I was able to grab some shots with my point-and-shoot camera without worrying about my fingers falling off from frostbite.
This photo is a lot like life, isn’t it? That very point where the tree meets its shadow is the point of foundation and stillness, just as the moment in between breaths is our point of stillness. The winter may blow this poor little sapling back and forth just as life may try to throw us off kilter continuously. But from that point of stillness emanates freedom and resilience. That’s why, when winter ends, this sapling will spring to life and grow leaves, berries and then flowers. Its foundation nurtures it through thick and thin.
Today it’s back to being cold and overcast, reminding me that winter is hardly over here in New England. May we all have awareness of the stillness within that nurtures us through thick and thin.
Nice post!

It was very nice and high 30’s low 40’s here yesterday as well. I have become so accustomed to 20° and below that I actually had to shed my jacket. It was nice. Feeling the warmth of the sun on my skin with not a snowflake or breeze in sight. I think we will only get one day this week above freezing. Hopefully the sun comes out that day too. Stay warm!

Beautiful photo and post – to me 40°F (4.5°C) still seems seems ridiculously cold. It doesn’t get even close to that cold in the middle of winter here. That just makes me appreciate even more how cold it must have been for 40°F to seem mild in comparison.
