“I’m going to explore past The Wall! Who’s with me!” Mac was the oldest and the leader. He was the idea duck, the one who had the courage to step outside of his comfort zone.

But past The Wall! This was almost too much. They’d always been told that beyond The Wall were Hunters: Wild creatures who killed for sport. It was rumored that some of them even ate ducks.

Still, their curiosity got the best of them, and they followed Mac cautiously.

“No way,” Sally thought. “I’ll just stay here where it’s safe.”

Sally lived the rest of her life by the pond where it was safe, eating bread crumbs tossed by picnickers. Mac and the gangย continued on to live long and happy lives with great adventures.

(Edited 5/13/15:ย  I changed the ending so you know what happened to Mac and the gang :))

I am participating in Priceless Joyโ€™s flash fiction challenge, Flash Fiction for Aspiring Writer, where we write a piece between 100 and 150 words (more or less 25 words) in length inspired by the photo prompt above.

  1. Excellent story! I really liked the “idea duck” and I am afraid the rest of the group got eaten. Thanks for participating with Flash Fiction for Aspiring Writers. I hope you have a pleasant experience and keep coming back!

    1. Mac actually didn’t die like everyone believes. He and the gang went on to great adventures and he actually did live a very long and full life. So in reality, it was a happy ending for all ๐Ÿ™‚
