She watched the two women chatting. Who knew what they were chatting about. Something mundane, probably the employee was giving directions to the baby formula.
She was surprised at this scene. The rest of the world had continued. People went to work, had babies, went shopping, the stores didn’t change, the streets were the same.
No, the world hadn’t changed one bit. But she had. She’d lost Ben – the most important person in her life. For fifteen years, he had become part of her being. She’d never ever be whole again. She was destitute of feeling, of purpose.
She awoke and opened her eyes, tears spilling. Ben snored next to her with his mouth open. It had been just a dream. She put her arm over him gently but firmly, as if to never ever let him go.
