MFtS: The Explorers

“The barista shook his head. That hedge couldn’t have moved closer overnight. Could it?”

The Allentian explorers were told that if they were caught they’d be imprisoned on Earth, tortured, and/or killed just like the other trees and bushes that had landed from planet Allent to Earth.

They disguised themselves as humanoids, but walking required them to unplant all of their roots, replant them, and then fix the ground all around. The disguises were passable, though it would take a while to get to their space ship.

The round live camera feed to the Allent Planetary Station rotated over them, trained to keep close.

“That’s the kid that comes and goes every day. He makes something called ‘coffee’,” Ralph said.

“Kofffffeeeeee,” the Planetary Station repeated.

“People go in there and pour this stuff into holes in their faces. It’s actually kinda gross to watch. I’ll show you when they do it in front of the window.”
