“The barista shook his head. That hedge couldn’t have moved closer overnight. Could it?”
The Allentian explorers were told that if they were caught they’d be imprisoned on Earth, tortured, and/or killed just like the other trees and bushes that had landed from planet Allent to Earth.
They disguised themselves as humanoids, but walking required them to unplant all of their roots, replant them, and then fix the ground all around. The disguises were passable, though it would take a while to get to their space ship.
The round live camera feed to the Allent Planetary Station rotated over them, trained to keep close.
“That’s the kid that comes and goes every day. He makes something called ‘coffee’,” Ralph said.
“Kofffffeeeeee,” the Planetary Station repeated.
“People go in there and pour this stuff into holes in their faces. It’s actually kinda gross to watch. I’ll show you when they do it in front of the window.”

Poor Allents… hope it doesn’t take too long for them to get to their ship. Very enjoyable!

Being an Allentian explorer sounds like quite a laborious task. At least they’re focussed on the important things, like coffee!

Great story! It made me giggle and I almost sprayed my coffee all over my screen. :-) Having a live camera in the green ball like that would be quite creepy though. Oh, wait! Isn’t Google already doing that? http://www.androidaustralia.com.au/2012/06/google-2/google-introduces-the-360-degree-backpack-cameras-for-street-view-treks/

All I’ll say is don’t carve your hedges into people or some of these stories will scare the …. right out of you. I just hope they reach that ship soon! Well done!
